You know, I'm online pretty much all day, which in the US is all evening. I could easily clear out the spambots who come about during this time.

    Just sayin'.
  • edited April 2010
Yeah, I'd also be happy to help clear out spambots if you need extra people.

I'm with Ryan. We need more mods if this sort of thing is gonna happen. I usually don't like having to moderate, but for the sake of busting spambot attacks I'd throw my hat in the ring too.

I will gladly possess this responsibility, I guess. Actually to be honest, I was just gonna leave until this shit got snuffed.

Yeah, sorry team, I have very limited internet access and can't patrol 24/7. I got rid of all of this recent outbreak. If you see spambots, use the report function and it will send an email to the supermods, which will go to my blackberry and I can usually go the one spot on my front porch that I can leech my neighbor's internet and take care of it.

    Thanks Jake!

    We have a report function?

    Edit: Oh, there it is.
  • edited April 2010
I'm sorry I didn't catch this sooner! I think I've cleared out the culprits for now, but it might be time to consider more drastic measures restricting newcomers.

    Or more moderators aka me.
  • edited April 2010
That's appreciated! But I'm sure nobody wants to be spending all this time pruning and banning.

UPDATE: I've turned on a feature to email me whenever people register, seems to have helped in cutting off a few spambots at the pass. But more drastic measures are likely forthcoming.

Oh jesus, the spambots are using pictures now.

What's the deal with that Rebecca person in the IE + CSS thread?
  • edited May 2010
It's a bot people have been too lazy to remove.

EVERYBODY GET TO THE BUNKER, WE ARE UNDER ATTACK

Edit: One bot has 42 posts... where are the mods... why have they forsaken us...
  • edited July 2010
    *wakes up*

    Huh? Attack? What?

    Everything looks fine to me.
  • edited July 2010
Thanks for squashing that one, Jakey. That looked nasty.
  • edited July 2010
Figures. Mario is off at Disneyland having a good time while we're being INVADED.
  • edited July 2010
Correction: having a great time while you're being MOLESTED.

    I spy a spambot.

Sorry about the sexy image spambots. vBulletin control panel says new users aren't allowed to use the IMG tag, but apparently that setting doesn't actually mean anything. >__< I've adjusted the settings to further restrict images for new users, hopefully that will help.

The naked butts made me cry.
  • edited February 2011
Some of us like sexy adverts, you monster!

    So I shall provide:

(Incidentally, Hitman: Blood Money is a wonderful game.)

Also, does anyone like how atrociously amateuristic the photoshop work on that image is?
  • edited February 2011
I was offended, mario. What kind of a world do we live in when the Internet has pornographic images on it?
  • edited February 2011
I know, I'm sorry! I promise more pictures of cats with bad grammar.

I just noticed that the spam bots are advertising 25+ singles. Is the average age of the belt really that high?!
  • edited February 2011
I think the mode age of active users is probably in the mid-20's, but I would have guessed all the accounts from the young folk would lower the age to late teens, early twenties. I don't know if the bots really care about target demographics very much though. But, this is getting a little out of hand now.
  • edited February 2011
    Damn I'm 25...
  • edited February 2011
Eh, the sexy images I can handle, but they aren't properly labeling them as NSFW and even worse, they are not merely double posting but TRIPLE posting. In the bad sort of way!
  • edited March 2011
Note that we have an outbreak of pox related spam.
  • edited March 2011
Yeah, I don't know how they get around the settings preventing them from using IMG tags. Probably need to update the forum software again. A project for the weekend, I wager!
