My art teacher read that aloud to our class today, just because. He also read one about how American kids have no work ethic and that bad grades shouldn't be blamed on the teachers.

Wow, that Phelps is the guy from the god hates fags website? Well, since he's old, he won't be around too much longer...

    Too bad he has descendants...

    Several descendants.

Who are in some cases even more vitriolic than him.

Oh God, save me from your followers.

Freedom of speech? What freedom of speech?
WASHINGTON Reporters who write about government surveillance could be prosecuted under proposed legislation that would solidify the administration's eavesdropping authority, according to some legal analysts who are concerned about dramatic changes in U.S. law.

How dare they write about the government! The establishment always knows what's best!

Issac Hayes Quits 'South Park'; cites 'bullshit' as reason
NEW YORK (AP) -- Isaac Hayes has quit "South Park," where he voices Chef, saying he can no longer stomach its take on religion.

Hayes, who has played the ladies' man/school cook in the animated Comedy Central satire since 1997, said in a statement Monday that he feels a line has been crossed.

"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins," the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said.

"Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored," he continued. "As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."

"South Park" co-creator Matt Stone responded sharply in an interview with The Associated Press Monday, saying, "This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology... He has no problem -- and he's cashed plenty of checks -- with our show making fun of Christians."

Last November, "South Park" targeted the Church of Scientology and its celebrity followers, including actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta, in a top-rated episode called "Trapped in the Closet." In the episode, Stan, one of the show's four mischievous fourth graders, is hailed as a reluctant savior by Scientology leaders, while a cartoon Cruise locks himself in a closet and won't come out.

Stone told The AP he and co-creator Trey Parker "never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin.

I gotta side with Parker and Stone on this one. It seems to me that they've made an effort over the years to target all races, religions, and mindsets equally.

I'm curious as to whether they'll attempt to imitate Hayes' voice or kill off Chef. Parker's a talented enough voice actor by now that he could probably pull it off, but it still sucks for something like this to happen.

Teen Shot in Fight Over Tater Tots
A teenager was shot Monday afternoon after he was arguing over tater tots with another teen, San Antonio Police said.

The shooting happened close to 5 p.m. at the Spring Hill Apartments off Raybon on the northeast side.

Neighbors told police the uncle of one of the boys told the teens to stop fighting. They were ready to stop, but investigators said a 20-year-old man would not let them.

“Another person out here in this apartment complex, I think wanted to see the young boys continue fighting,” Sgt. Rudy Cran with SAPD said.

The man then walked into a nearby apartment complex, grabbed a gun and started shooting, authorities said. He fired several shots into the living room where the boys were watching television, police said.

“One of those rounds hit the young man in the back,” Cran said.

The boy was rushed to University Hospital, officials said. His condition was unavailable Monday night.

The suspect remained on the loose Monday. Police were looking for him.

Miss Deaf Texas killed by train
Witness says engineer sounded horn repeatedly before striking 18-year-old

AUSTIN - The reigning Miss Deaf Texas died Monday afternoon after being struck by a train, officials said.

Tara Rose McAvoy, 18, was walking near railroad tracks when she was struck by a Union Pacific train, authorities said. A witness told Austin television station KTBC the train sounded its horn right up until the accident occurred.

McAvoy, who had been deaf since birth, won the state title in June and represented the state “with dignity and pride,” state pageant director Laura Loeb-Hill told the Associated Press via e-mail Monday night.

McAvoy was to have represented Texas at the Miss Deaf America pageant this summer, Loeb-Hill said.

McAvoy graduated last year from the Texas School for the Deaf, attended Austin Community College and then started at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., in January, but had returned to Texas, Loeb-Hill said.

Now that is what I call "Fucked-up". And a bit ironic, too.
  • edited March 2006
How the hell is that ironic?!?
  • edited March 2006
It would be ironic if she had super-hearing, and heard so well that she couldn't distinguish the train horn from everything else and it killed her.
  • edited March 2006
That's better. As it stands though, if you've been deaf all your life, then being hit by a train because you couldn't hear its warning horn is the exact opposite of ironic.
  • edited March 2006
I said a BIT ironic... sheesh.

    No! Zero percent ironic!
