Ryan, I said I would come back and be a bad college student and procrastinate and stay up really late and talk to you while you're in decent hour time in China just like good times last year. I fully intended on it too! And the shitty thing is, I actually AM staying up really late to finish homework assignments, except that they're due at midnight and then at 3 so I'm actually working the whole time I'm up late. After I finish my calculus, I'm so freaking tired I just wanna pass out.
This thread seems appropriate. Japan to Hawaii. A few hours in an airport, then to LA where we were delayed somewhat by Airforce 2 landing. A bit later off to Minneapolis and now home. 1 day, 40 hours, 2 sunsets, 2 sundowns. Ugh. Still much better than the trip out there. I think I redefined a plane trip from hell. Will have to go into more later.
EDIT: Yes, I'm still alive. No luck getting rid of me THAT easy.
I now routinely work until midnight repairing computers, so I'm more likely to be around at late hours. But hey, I get to post in this thread I made in tribute to similar threads from forums long gone, so that's something!
Every single week for the past... oh... since January... I've averaged about 3 all-nighters. Am I allowed to post in this thread that often? I've thought about it before, but I feel like I would take over the thread.
I wonder how many years I'm cutting off of my life by being chronically sleep deprived.
You know, I heard about a study once that said if you go something like 3 weeks with getting less than 8 hours of sleep every night, you end up with the same mental capabilities (like lack of concentration, decreased attention span) as someone who has stayed up straight for 3 days.
I don't know how much I believe that, but shit. It gives me an excuse for not paying very much attention in class :P
You don't really need 8 hours of sleep every night. That's just a loose guideline. If you're healthy, you need less sleep. We also develop habits, though. If you've convinced yourself you need 8 hours and you used to always get 8 hours, then your brain will make you feel tired because it thinks you need more sleep even if you really don't.
The important thing is consistency though; when I stay up all night, I usually work until I'm tired, sleep for an hour or so, wake up, work until I finish, then go back to sleep for as long as I can before I have to get up for class. Last week, I got 2 hours of sleep one night, 4 hours of sleep the next night, 6 hours the next night, and then 12 hours.
I've been pretty well rested for the first week and a half of school this semester, and I'm pretty sure tonight marks only the second night I've stayed up ridiculously late with class the next morning.
My room mate has earlier classes than me and is usually in bed before midnight. I go to bed shortly after since I don't want to be a douche and shine my laptop screen in the direction of his bed.
Man, fuck that guy. Anyone going to sleep before midnight should see that coming. Can't you just face your laptop in a different direction? Can't he sleep with a light on?
My roommate freshman year had a TOTALLY opposite schedule from mine. She woke up way before I did, I went to sleep way after she did, and we were rarely in the dorm at the same time. When we were, she mostly watched her tv and I hid behind my laptop. Luckily we were both heavy enough sleepers; we never woke each other up. In the mornings her alarm would go off and she'd leave for class, and at night she could sleep with one light on.
We weren't exacty.... friends... but we got along just fine.

Sorry college is sucking my life away!
Whatever, I still miss it and you know you do too.

My body probably hates me at this point.
Or maybe you can't rest easily, I'd rather not get stabbed personally, even if the person stabbing me has to stab themselves as well.
Not true. I won't go into too many details, but let me tell ya. I love my body.
So, naturally, I repay it by taking horrible care of myself.

So far so good! This might be a good semester!
Probably not though
Aww, I love your body too.
