Actually, yes, I did put the original comics in the newer frame, in an attempt to reduce file size (in the early days, I knew little about web-friendly optimization), but I haven't gotten around to doing them all. I switched to the transparency-less layout at Episode 93 and haven't looked back since.

Ah, it all makes sense now. It's funny though, because just earlier today I was looking in the archives and for the first time noticed the "The Legend of Zelda: The Comic Strip" logo to actually say "The Comic Strip" on it, and now I know where it came from. Hurray for comic history!

I'm sorry, but, uh, does anyone have a comic they would like to post on here, or a comment about someone else's? I posted a new comic on my blog yesterday. And I finally got Manon a 16-bit sprite!:D So, anybody wanna post or comment on a comic? Anybody? ( crickets chirping )

When I read the first line of that comic, I thought I was reading the opening to some Dungeon Porn. Not to be mean, (I'm being truthful, if you didn't want criticism, then don’t make your comics public, and ask people to "comment" on them.) but that comic was NOT funny. The jokes are child-like and boring. I'm no expert on jokeology, (Or even a novice), so I can't really tell you what’s wrong with that comic, as I do not know the proper terms for any of the devices used in comedy.

I like the fancy lighting effects. It's all like.... you DON'T know what's in there.... and then all of a sudden..... there it IS! A well-lit, windowed, central air-conditioned, luxo-dungeon with high speed internet and a jacuzzi. Or so I assume.

And a mini-bar. Thats must be the scary part, there's a mini-bar, but its empty.

I love how I haven't checked this thread since it was first posted I think, and now it has become an incredible confusing kind-of-funny thing. I like to see how conversations evolve I guess.. I'm just weird like that.

    Yet it's still marginally on-topic.

Try writing the text first, and then creating the dialogue bubbles afterwards. It'll look nicer if your dialogue fits in the bubbles evenly.

If I may be blunt about your latest comic, your Zelda sprite is pretty terrible, where did you get it from?

Also: If your characters AREN'T actually the characters from the zelda games, but "humourous" pastiches of them, at least don't use the sprites of the zelda characters straight, that is, what's the point of calling him manondorf if you're just using a ganondorf sprite?

And enough with the ****ing JPG already! How many times do we have to tell you? If you can't get the images to look right then stop hosting them on a damn blog! A blog is not meant for webcomic archives! Try Drunk Duck or something.

Word of advice: Never resize sprites to anything that isn't a multiple of 100%. 200% good. 300% good. 150% bad.

    Okay.

By the way, here's my new comic! Bad comments, good comments, give some, give all!

    It's called: Everybody Gots Issues
    Enjoy!Copy%20(2)%20of%20new.jpg

If you re-read your scripts and put a littile more effort into it, I know you could make a great comic...

EDIT: Oh, and Drunk Duck > You.
  • edited July 2006
As I said before, space your dialogue evenly in your dialogue bubbles. In the first half, all of your dialogue is off to the left of your speech bubbles. The last Kirby line is centered, but there's too much empty space on either side.

Make the dialogue fit in the dialogue bubbles nicely. Otherwise, it will look like you didn't put much effort into your comic, and no one wants to read a comic that the author himself doesn't care about.

However, it does look like you've taken other advice and used it, such as using backgrounds. Backgrounds are really important. People seldom notice a great background, but everyone notices a crappy one.

And your sprites look cleaner than before.

    Don't be an ass.

What I don't get is the fact that "Wink" is shown as super-big, but still the background is the same size.

I probably should have thought about that.

Don't tell him to not be an ass just because you can't figure out something as simple as Drunk Duck. If you can't figure it out, you can ask somebody. You don't rant on about how it sucks when there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

    http://www.drunkduck.com/The_Legend_Of_Wink/

And stop using JPG (or BMP)! Drunk Duck would not convert a PNG into a JPG, so that means you either saved as a BMP and tried to upload that (which I'm damn sick and tired of telling you to STOP DOING BECAUSE BMP FILES ARE TOO BIG), OR you uploaded the damn JPG file that your stupid blog made.

So rather than telling The Machine to stop being an ass, you can stop saying everything sucks even though it's your fault for not paying attention to sound advice.

mjc, could you stop it with the elitist JPG hating? It's coming off less like sound advice and more like really annoying.
  • edited July 2006
Surely you can see where he's coming from though, he keeps offering Spyro some sound advice about file formats, but he constantly refuses to listen.
  • edited July 2006
I'v tried every format besides jpeg and it always ends up a jpeg. I listen, but the computer doesn't. But I'm not going to change to Drunk Duck ( which TheMachine called me ) because my parents see them too sometimes. With a name like drunk duck... it's just not right. But I guess I can make a alternate site for you guys.

By the way, does anyone check out http://www.inksandwich.com anymore?
  • edited July 2006
Your parents check the comic sometimes...So? How could they possible have a problem with the name Drunk Duck? If it were "Dirty Fucking Whore Duck" or something like that, I'd understand, but Drunk Duck is just a bit of fun...

It's not at all elitist JPG hating. You don't see me telling Psy or Kajin to stop using JPG. It's exactly what Night Lord said: Spyro's "it's not my fault the computer has a mind of its own" crap is getting old REALLY fast. I'm starting to doubt he even stopped saving them as BMP at all. I checked out his blog host, and like many sites of that nature, they only resample the image if it's too large in file size. So what's his next excuse for when he uploads his BMPs to Drunk Duck and they get resampled? MS Paint is making monster sized PNGs? Too bad I already tested it by saving the same BMP file as a PNG in MS Paint and Paint Shop Pro and actually got a smaller file size out of the one saved in MS Paint. And then he tries to tell other people not to be an ass. I gotta stop typing right now before I say what I really think about him and get myself banned.

mjc, what you're doing is not actually constructive as far as getting Spyro to learn how to compress an image. You're just yelling at him. If you genuinely want to help him, give him detailed instructions as to what he should be doing, instead of just getting cross when he gets it wrong. It genuinely sounds like he doesn't know how to do it properly, but I don't think that's his fault.

I would offer advice, but I haven't used Paint in over a decade, so I'm not all that familiar with its workings. I'd definitely recommend a more capable image editor, like the free application The GIMP. It has all the Photoshop features you'd care to use for a sprite comic, and plenty of great image optimization capabilities. Having each sprite on its own layer makes a world of difference for non-destructive image editing.
