Can't argue with that. I used to play Pokémon Gold while working as a bag boy at the local Nob Hill. That apron had a nifty front pocket that worked perfectly to conceal my Game Boy Color.
Unfortunately I'm not man enough. My office has a bunch of cross like cubicles set up, with one person facing inward in each corner. The boundaries are really low, and they're made of glass so you can see each other. And the people behind me can easily see me if they just turn around.
But, we are moving to a new office park early next month. We might have different setups. If I'm really lucky, I can get a seat next to the window.
I wonder if they'll manage to make the game look like that. Surely someone can come up with some sort of funky shading system to make 3D graphics look like oil paintings.
EDIT: That article is hilarious. Way to completely over-analyse a picture.
Aww, I like the new art. They wanted to make it realistic, but needed enemies to stand out for whatever reason, so they went cartoony with it as well. I'm not sure how the logic of that works out, but I still say it looks pretty snazzy.
Yeah, I'm liking the art style in the new Zelda game too. Frankly, this is how the series should have looked since the Gamecube days, and it strikes a nice balance between the overly saccharine Wind Waker and the bland and boring Twilight Princess.
Still, after suffering through the extreme shittyness of TP (I haven't played Wind Waker, having been turned off by its art style) I'm starting to think I should just write off the awesomeness of games like Ocarina of Time and Link's Awakening as a fluke and stay away from the series from now on. Still, I'll keep my eye on this to see if they actually do anything interesting with the series this time around.
BAH!!! You guys suck, I love Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, AND Ocarina of Time.
I can't seem to get into Majora's Mask though, people tell me it's fun, and I'm inclined to believe them, but I just can't stick with it for some reason.
Windwaker was good, but TP's art was the best, hands down. I think they should have kept Link as the badass swordsman he was in TP instead of cartooning him again. So sad ;_;
I agree; I think the game art from Twilight Princess was BEAUTIFUL... there are parts of the game where the cutscenes left me in awe, because the storyline was so... dark. I think of TP as a darker version of Ocarina of Time, and I liked it a LOT. When I saw they were going a step back towards the cell-shading style of windwaker, it made me a little sad. I guess it's more appropriate for the series as a whole, but man. I was really looking forward to a darker zelda series.
At least make 2 games with the same art style like they did with Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.. THEN try out a different style
To be fair, I'm fairly sure that Skyward Sword is way before all of those, having read something about explaining the origins of the master sword, so the sequels to TP might continue being rather dark and such.
Of course as I haven't played the game and am not on the story writing team for it I could be entirely wrong.
Also I still say you make much to much a fuss about the graphics Magnus. But then again, I still play 64 and PS1 games rather frequently as well so maybe I just make too little a fuss.
Graphics and style are two different things though. A game can have the same graphics but with just a little tweaking of the style of said graphics, and the game gets outta whack. Yes, I will still rent the game in all likelyhood, but if they had kept the original style I think that they would have drawn the crowd that can dish out the cash and buy the game at this point. TP was basically the first of its kind: A Zelda game catered to the teenage and up demographic instead of the elementary school crowd.

'Tis a Zelda game, they're gonna be swimming in cash regardless of the graphics style (which I still say is snazzy regardless of what you people think).
Personally, I like it. Remember, Ocarina was far from photorealistic. In fact, with the stalfos and other things, it was often more cartoony than anything. While it would be impossible to perfectly emulate the Ocarina style on a new console without it looking plain or dated (Oot 3DS is the exception, as it is not a new game and people will be expecting and old look), I think this new game is the closest you can get. The "painted" style is the perfect medium between TP and WW.
Besides, have you seen those hi-res screenshots? I love the way things fade into brush-strokes as they fade to the background.

Hell, to save in that game, I kill myself on purpose like a real man. With testiculars!

...I still haven't played through Wind Waker or Twighlight Princess and I have them both. I'm a terrible Zelda fan.

As long as you can see clearly see what is going on, the quality of graphics shouldn't be an issue.
Goldeneye for 64 looks like crap now. Still plays awesome though.
