I like to think of it as a reward for buying damn near every version since Red and Blue . Anyway, yeah, it's obvious. They're pretty different in color, and they literally sparkle when you see them.
Mine was expecially hard to catch! I was in entrana forest, and in it you have a partner, who battles wild pokemon. When I found the buneary, it was with a wurmple (spelling?). I couldn't try to catch it then, it said: "It's impossible to aim with two pokemon!". So I had to kill wurmple. The tricky part was, my partner had a chansey and was beating the tar out of buneary, so I had to kill wurmple fast, so that buneary wouldn't die. Also, when buneary was singled out, my partner's pokemon kept attacking, so I had to catch it before the other pokemon killed it.
Man, that felt good.
What are your guys' teams like? I've got:
-Buneary lv20 female
-Prinplup lv25 male
-Starly lv3 female
-Bidoof lv5 male
-Pachirisu lv10 female
-Chatot lv10 female
My god you have a level 25 pokemon already? Well... now that I think about it, I guess having an upcoming conference paper that needs writing seriously hinders my Pokemon playing... have you been playing pretty much all day? My highest is an 11 Starly.
Hahaha, Serephel and I were playing it side to side and he saw a Bidoof for the first time and he exclaimed something like, "Oh my god, this thing is covered in tumors!!" It's basically a beaver-ish pokemon but the way they did the fur makes it look kinda bumpy and tumor-ish. Hahaha. Yeah I agree with you, the names are pretty dumb, but I still find the game extremely enjoyable.
Anyone import their Pokemon from Fire Red or Leaf Green? I'm going to import mine eventually, but I'm waiting until I get used to Sinnoh region Pokemon first.
I played my Diamond version this afternoon. During lunch break. At work. I haven't been this into a Pokémon game since Gold. So much fun!!
Which is weird, because when you get right down to it, it's exactly the same as any other Pokémon game. But I do love the stylus-assisted battle menus, makes attack selection a breeze. So maybe that's it?
Eh, Leaf Green was okay, but it's hard to get super-excited about such a blatant rehash. Playing through an overworld map I'm unfamiliar with and encountering new species is apparently enough for me to get pumped.
The Pokétch is also cool. My favorite mode is Party Status. What about the rest of you?
I too love exploring a new world with new Pokemon. It's fun not knowing where certain pokemon are, whether they evolve or not, if they evolve by normal levels or other means, etc.
I like the party status as well. Right now, I have 4 badges. I had to skip one gym though, I guess it's like the Viridian Gym. I'm stuck now, though. I can't get to any new towns! >.> My shiny Buneary finally evolved though, so I'm happy.
Yes it does. Shininess is tied to permanent stat factors that are unaffected by evolution or level-up. People "in the know" refer to these stats as IVs, but I don't remember much beyond that. Serebii.net can tell you a lot more on the subject.
EDIT: Huh, looks like it isn't tied to IVs in the current generation. Forget what I said! It still carries through evolution though.
Why the crap are you at the Elite Four already? Did you even stop to enjoy the game? I've been playing for hours and only have two badges, and I'm fine with that!
I'm with the last two of you. I have to work during the day, and only have a scant amount of time to play at night. Two badges now, with a party at or around level 20. Having a great time finding secrets and talking to NPCs!

Doot (boom)! Deet (boom)! Doot (boom)! Deet (boom)!
EDIT: I CAUGHT A SHINY BUNEARY ON MY FUCKING FIST DAY OF PLAYING DIAMOND. I AM HAPPY.
By the way, you're damn lucky.

My team's a joke! XD
These are the kind of names they're giving Pokemon now? They were always awful, but at least they were mostly cute puns. What is a Bidoof?
Um....yes! Haha! I have two gyms beat..buts that's all I have to show for now...I want to catch a rotom!

I've never actually tried raising a Zubat before. They kinda stink.
Also, replaced my penguin with a Buizel. Much cooler. Weasels.
